The December 2021 issue of Nursing Times is focused on the issues of raising concerns and speaking up, in light of growing pressures on staff and the ongoing pandemic. An investigation by Nursing Times has sadly found that nurses are facing major barriers to speaking up, with some being actively silenced by their employers. A former Mid Staffs nurse, who pioneered work on improving transparency and raising concerns, has also told us that she fears the impact of Covid-19 has the potential to create a situation where history could repeat itself, while evidence of racism faced by some nurses remains an area of huge concern. In the clinical section this month, we look at job satisfaction among nursing associates, how storytelling can help to support staff and improving your assessment skills in critical care. We also feature the winners of the Namaste Care essay competition, where nurses reflect on caring for those at the end of life.
