Focusing on continence care: May 2025 Issue of Nursing Times

Continence care takes centre stage in the May 2025 issue of Nursing Times.

The annual conference of the Association for Continence Professionals (ACP) takes place later this month in Milton Keynes. Our long-term partnership with the ACP to help support and promote continence care means we have themed this issue to chime with its event, including our news feature on the rising issue of incontinence in schoolchildren.

You will also find the clinical practice section filled with content on improving and innovating in continence care. Our lead clinical article focuses on stomas, an area growing in the public consciousness as more and more influencers and celebrities talk about their experiences of living with a stoma.

Plus, don’t miss our article on the important subject of post-intensive care syndrome, which details the physical, mental and emotional symptoms that can negatively affect critical care patients after they have left the intensive care unit and persist for months.

This issue also includes a timely interview with Royal College of Midwives chief executive Gill Walton, and a round-up of the key headlines from Unison’s annual health conference.

Additional features include discussions on improving integration between health and social care, ensuring equitable care for children with medical complexities, and promoting inclusive breast cancer care for women from diverse ethnic backgrounds. Guidance on reducing polypharmacy in primary care and supporting patients with osteoarthritis is also provided.

And since it is May, the month of International Nurses Day, we celebrate the dedication and achievements of nurses such as military nurse Su Jeffreys, who will be the lamp carrier at this year’s Florence Nightingale Commemoration Service at Westminster Abbey.
