The adoption of digital technology within healthcare is gathering pace. In tune with this mood, we have once again dedicated October to the theme of digital technology in nursing while at the same time hosting our second Digital Nursing conference last month to discuss and debate the present and potential use of technology by the profession. You can read about the views of some of our keynote speakers from the event in this issue of Nursing Times, along with a host of other great articles on digital technology. These include the views of a social care nurse leader on the use of digital technology in care home settings, an early career nurse who innovates with artificial intelligence and a nurse educator who teaches ways to overcome the unintended consequences of electronic patient records. Elsewhere, in the clinical practice section, we explore eHealth literacy and NHS 111 online, using virtual reality to enable effective learning environments for students and whether or not digitalisation is delivering on its promise.
